WIRELESS FREEDOM

Take back the stage and experience untethered, wireless keytar performance with the Alesis Vortex Wireless. This dynamic keytar controller connects wirelessly to your computer and integrates with popular virtual instruments, plugins, and DAWs. For maximum stage and studio mobility, the PC- and Mac-compatible USB dongle uses a single USB port to create a reliable, wireless connection. Fastened with a piano black finish and intuitive ergonomic layout, Vortex Wireless offers comprehensive controller functionality in a stylish and stage-ready design. Create dynamic, expressive performances that the audience will both see and hear.

SHAKE IT UP

Vortex Wireless offers unparalleled expressive control with an onboard MIDI-assignable accelerometer. Map the accelerometer to any software parameter, and create music that adapts to your performance. Glissando, pitch bends, vibrato, filter sweeps, and additional expressive actions can be conducted by simply altering the orientation of the Vortex Wireless. Now the sound of your music can match your performance style.

ONBOARD CONTROL & CONNECTIVITY

Command the stage with 37 velocity-sensitive keys with aftertouch, 8 velocity-sensitive drum pads, and a row of physical knobs all laid out in an accessible, hands-on design. A series of neck controls provides further performance options: tweak sounds using the MIDI-assignable touch strip, expand melodic ideas with the octave range buttons, and activate sustain all while your right hand remains free to play. Vortex Wireless offers multiple connectivity options and comes equipped with USB-MIDI and MIDI Out.

VIRTUAL SYNTH AND DAWS INCLUDED

Vortex Wireless comes bundled with a versatile, high-definition virtual synthesizer designed specifically for it. The Vortex I, by SONiVOX, expands the sonic pallet of your Vortex Wireless with ambient pads, edgy leads, wobbly basses, and more. Vortex Wireless interfaces directly with the software so you can tweak your sounds to taste from any place on stage. For performing, producing, and improvising, Ableton Live Lite is included and enables you to explore your musical ideas in real-time. Also included is Ignite, by AIR Music Tech, a powerful piece of music creation software that lets you compose, write, and record songs with a straightforward workflow.

  • How do I set the Vortex Wireless to work with Ableton Live?

    1. Download and Install the Vortex Wireless Controller Surface Map here.
    2. Press Patch Select until the LED located next to A is lit.

    4. The display screen will display P1 when the correct patch is selected. Note: P1 will not display if the correct patch is already selected.
  • How do I assign the touch ribbon to Pitch Bend?

To assign the touch ribbon to pitch bend on a patch, do the following:

    1. Press Patch Edit to enter patch edit mode.
    2. Press the Ribbon Mode 1 button. The ribbon mode buttons are the circular buttons located to the left of the touch ribbon. rb1 will be shown on the display screen.
    3. Press the key labeled Mode Assign until Pb is shown on the display screen.
    4. Press the key labeled Enter to save your patch. PE will be shown on the display screen.

Note: The touch ribbon control can be in Latch or Return mode. To put the touch ribbon in “Return” mode, perform the following:
    1. Press Patch Edit to enter patch edit mode.
    2. Touch the touch ribbon itself. rib will be shown on the display screen.
    3. Press the key labeled Mode Assign until rn is shown on the display screen.
    4. Press the key labeled Enter to save your patch. PE will be shown on the display screen.
    5. Press Patch Edit to exit patch edit mode and return to performance mode. PF will be shown on the display screen.
  • Can I reverse the ribbon, slider, knobs and accelerometer controls on my Vortex Wireless so that the minimum and maximum positions for the controls are opposite than their default settings?

Yes, do this by setting the minimum value of a control to 127, and the maximum value of a control to 0. For example, follow the steps below to reverse the direction of the ribbon controller in Ribbon Mode 1, so that the maximum value is located at the left of the ribbon and the minimum value is located on the right side of the ribbon:

    1. Press Patch Edit. (Display screen will display PE).
    2. Press the Ribbon Mode 1 button. (Display screen will display rb1).
    3. Turn K2 to 127 and Turn K3 to 0.
    4. Press the Enter key on the Vortex Wireless keyboard.
    5. Press Patch Edit to return to Performance Mode. (Display screen will display PF).
    6. The ribbon controller will now be reversed in Ribbon Mode 1.
  • How do I restore my Vortex Wireless patches to their default settings?

    1. Make sure Vortex Wireless is powered off.
    2. Press and hold the Start/Stop and Patch Select buttons.
    3. While holding these buttons, turn the Vortex Wireless power on.
    4. After all LEDs are illuminated on the body of the Vortex Wireless, release the buttons.
    5. All LEDs on the neck of Vortex Wireless will flash 4 times to confirm that all patches are now at their default settings
  • Can I turn off the accelerometer?

To turn off the accelerometer on a patch, follow this procedure:

    1. Press Patch Edit. (Display screen will display PE).
    2. Press the Edit Accelerometer key. (Display screen will displayAcc).
    3. Press the Mode Assign key until the display screen displays oFF.
    4. Press the Enter key. (Display screen will display PE).
