Learn How to Play Lead Guitar, Jazz Chords, New Fingerpicking Patterns, Music Theory, and More

Enhance both rhythm guitar and lead guitar technique with eMedia Intermediate Guitar Method. This complete method features over 170 guitar lessons designed to advance your playing, and was created by Kevin Garry, Ph.D., University of Colorado-Boulder, a music professor and award-winning gutarist.

Guitar scales, Travis fingerpicking, jazz chords, strumming patterns, bar chords (barre chords), and more are covered in these intermediate to advanced guitar lessons. Guitar lessons use guitar songs with classic riffs like those played by Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to keep it fun. The included rock and blues lessons use guitar scales, string bends, and vibrato to teach you how to play lead guitar, and eMedia Interactive Feedback technology (not found in video guitar lessons) helps you to learn faster.

Features include:

  • eMedia’s Animated Fretboard, which shows you fingerings for guitar chords, guitar scales, notes, and exercises.
  • The Note and Finger Tracker tool, which can display the melody notes you play in real time, both as guitar notes (music notation) and on the fretboard, with correctly played notes highlighted as you play.
  • Music theory lessons covering the circle of fifths with guitar theory lessons on intervals, constructing guitar chords (incl. jazz chords and extensions), and guitar scales. These help you learn how to play lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and improvisation.
  • A directory of all crucial guitar scales, including major, minor, blues, and pentatonic scales with recordings and complete scale fingerings.
  • Over 40 songs, with hits made famous by Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Jerry Garcia, Steve Miller, and others.
  • Guitar lessons with guitar tabs (tablature) and standard guitar notes.
  • Videos with split-screen view with close-ups of both hands.
  • Songs and lessons as audio and variable-speed MIDI tracks where selections can be looped, slowed or sped up.
  • Guitar tools that include an automatic guitar tuner, guitar chord chart/dictionary, recorder, guitar scale directory, and metronome.

Interactive Feedback on Your Playing!

Interactive Feedback shows you when you play the correct notes on your guitar as you progress through an exercise. With a microphone connected to your computer and a guitar in your hands, play the notes in the exercise (or song) on any screen featuring the “ear” icon in the upper right corner and the computer will highlight the notes for you in green. As you reach your goals of getting all notes to change color in each exercise, you’ll discover that reading tablature and music notation is easier than you ever thought possible!

Note and Finger Tracker!

The Note Tracker and Finger Tracker tools help you see more easily what note you’re playing by displaying the note as music notation and on an animated fretboard. You’ll be able to correct your playing quickly and learn to read music fast!

Music Notation Display Options

Highlighting notes

Music Tracking

Highlighting of the music and lyrics as they’re heard makes it easy to follow along on guitar.

Variable-Speed MIDI

Slows down the audio to any tempo, while the Animated Fretboard shows song fingerings as the music plays. Learn at the pace best suited to you!

Scale Directory

Fingerings, recordings and variable-speed MIDI for over 150 scales make practicing and learning new scales easy. When scales are introduced in the lesson material, they are followed by sample songs applying those scales, making the learning experience practical and fun.

Music Theory

An interactive Circle of Fifths helps teach music theory and is linked to scales in the Scale Directory chapter in Intermediate Guitar Method. Intervals, chord construction, the basics of improvisation, and modes are also covered.

Animated Fretboard

Watch the fretboard come alive with real-time display of notes, including bends, vibrato, and slides! It displays fingering positions for you as the music plays. This allows you to see exactly how to play the song on a simulated guitar fretboard as you listen to the music and the music tracking highlights the notes. Since you can highlight and loop any section of the music (or even double-click on a single note in the music), you can use the Animated Fretboard to make difficult sections or quick changes easier to manage and learn. The Animated Fretboard makes it simple to follow along with the lesson content. Includes option for both right- and left-handed views, and, just for fun, choose from six different fretboard skins modeled after classic guitars!

Automatic Tuner

Tune your guitar quickly and easily. A precision gauge allows you to play into your computer’s microphone and tune up interactively. Reference tuning notes are included.

Chord Dictionary

Includes fingering charts and recorded sounds for over 1000 chords! Easy access helps you learn songs with new chords quickly. The Chord Dictionary is an indispensable reference tool.

Digital Metronome

Set your own speed and keep a steady beat.

Digital Recorder

Save your recordings and play back to share and compare.
