IMPOSCAR2

THE MULTI-AWARD WINNING REIMAGINATION OF THE OSCAR®

If you’re not familiar with the impOSCar then you’re in for a real treat. However, if you fell in love with it first time around, be prepared to fall in love all over again.

impOSCar2 reimagines the UK-built 80s classic and soars to new sonic heights via steroid injections of innovative features and enhancements, each designed around the wishes of those musicians, programmers and producers who loved the original.

impOSCar2 comes with a 1000+ Patch library featuring sounds created by original OSCar users including Billy Currie (Ultravox), Darren Price & Rick Smith (Underworld), Paul Hartnol (Orbital), & Paul Wiffen (the original OSCar sound designer and programmer for Stevie Wonder & Jean Michel Jarre).

TOUR

THREE GUI SIZES

impOSCar2 comes with Small (840), [default] Regular (1024) & Large (1600 pixel width) versions.

PATCH SELECTION

Quickly access 1000+ carefully curated and categorised factory Patches

OSCILLATORS

Meticulously replicated dual digital oscillators each offering 10 waveforms plus 2 user-editable additive waveforms. The second oscillator’s pitch can be shifted and detuned replicating operation of the original hardware. The pulse waveforms in both oscillators have their own dedicated width control.

FILTER

impOSCar2 perfectly models OSCar’s unique filter with two 12dB filters in 9 different combinations including; bandpass, 24dB low-pass & 24dB high-pass. Separation controls the distance between the frequency cutoff of the two filters (for configurations other than 24dB high/low-pass).

FILTER DRIVE

This overdrive function was added because many contemporary keyboard players, such as Jan Hammer and Billy Currie, were routing their instrument audio output through overdrive pedals for a more aggressive sound.

ARPEGGIATOR

A musically useful arpeggiator running in the following modes; Up, Down, Up/Down and Random modes.

GLIDE

6 Glide modes with Glide Time control.

MIX & RING MOD

Balance the levels of Oscs 1 & 2, add White or Pink noise, and set the Ring Modulation  to; Off, Half or Full.

AUX MOD

Modulate any of 8 destinations; OSC2 Pitch, PW1, PW2, PW 1 & 2, Filter Separation, Filter Cutoff, OSC Mix and Noise Mix with source combinations including Envelopes 1 & 2 and LFOs 1 & 2.

LFOS

2 independent LFOs featuring 12 waveforms and 11 sync modes providing  deep and detailed sound design options.

ENVELOPES

Envelope 1 for the Filter with an additional Amount control and Envelope 2 for Amplitude with a control to Delay the start of its effect.

TRIGGERING

Play in various keyboard modes; Mono, Duo or Polyphonic with 4, 8, 12 or 16 voice selection. There are also 5 modes of envelope
(re-)triggering.

UNISON

Stack up to 8 voices, detune, then spread their width for monstrously phat mono or poly sounds.

NOTE PAN

Pan the voices in the stereo field with 5 different modes. Spread controls how wide the mode selected is applied.

EFFECTS SECTION

Complement your Patch with these vintage style stereo delay and chorus effects.

USER WAVE CREATION

Draw your user defined additive waveforms thanks to the simple and intuitive LED matrix that allows you to set the level of each of the 24 Harmonics.

KBD

Set Keyboard Hold, Memory Chord and DAW Sync.

KEYBOARD VELOCITY RESPONSE

Allow the velocity of your playing to control how impOSCar2 reacts and sounds.

CONTROLLERS

2 Independent Controllers / 4 Sources inc Wheel, Aftertouch Expression and Velocity / 7 Destinations inc Filter Cutoff, Filter Q, Filter Separation and Drive / Control Depth Amount Knob

WHEELS

Pitch Bend Amount / Pitch, Modulation Wheel and Aux Mod Wheel Controls / Selectable Sources inc: Mod Wheel, Aftertouch or Expression

SYNTHESIS FEATURES

ImpOSCar2 affords both additive and subtractive synthesis types but as you would expect we’ve made a plethora of additions that should keep even the most ardent synth programmer happy.

It PWMs
In the Oscillator section both oscillators have independent pulse width control, for more control over the PWM and Rectangle Waveforms.

Screaming like a Bastard
The Unison Section helps take the classic OSCar sound to awe inspiring new heights! Utilising the various Mono and Poly Unison modes allows the creation of anything from screaming-bastard Unison Leads right up to mammoth 8 Voice Poly Unison stacks with 16 note polyphony. Additionally enhancing the sonic possibilities the unison detune knob takes unison voice tuning from subtle to insane for the phatest sound ever to come out of a virtual synth. We didn’t stop there either. A Unison Spread knob enables each unison voice to be spread across the stereo spectrum for bombastically spacious chords or leads.

Gliding Chords
In the Unison Section there’s the ability to apply different glide times to each unison voice when using Portamento or Glissando – a wonderful feature borrowed from the classic OB-8.
