Bringing together 3 classic Moog synths, the Syntronik Noir recreates the Multimoog, Micromoog and Prodigy.

Late 70’s progressive sounds

Bringing together 3 classic Moog synths, the Syntronik Noir recreates the Multimoog, Micromoog and Prodigy. Introduced in the late 70s, the Prodigy technically has 3 oscillators, but unlike the Minimoog, the Prodigy’s third oscillator is only used as an LFO for modulation. However, oscillator sync is available in the Prodigy taking a cue from the Micromoog and Multimoog synths.

The Micromoog’s single oscillator design is surprisingly flexible with its continuously variable waveshape and sub-oscillator implementation. A single self-oscillating resonant low pass filter is provided. The modulation capabilities of the Micromoog are quite extensive for what looks like a simple synth.

The Multimoog builds on the clever design of the Micromoog by adding a second oscillator and additional modulation routes. The Multimoog was one of the first synths to offer aftertouch, pressure sensitivity that could be used to amplify modulation. The Multimoog is really a modulation monster and excels when it is stretched to its limits for unconventional sounds using cross-modulation between the oscillators, a noise generator and filter. Some very complex resulting wave shapes are easy to achieve on this synth.

Some historic users were Astral Projection, Fatboy Slim, Depeche Mode, Prodigy, Howard Jones, Blur.
