The HDSP AES-32 is a new member of the internationally successful Hammerfall DSP series. This short length, 2 slot space PCI card provides 16 AES/EBU inputs and 16 AES/EBU outputs. The HDSP AES-32 is RME's answer to requests from audio professionals for an AES-based solution with the typical RME features and quality. This audio card is a perfect all-in-one solution for professional users in the fields of broadcast, TV, theatre, stage/PA – and in any professional studio. Multiple HDSP AES-32 cards can be combined to form larger systems, recording up to 32 AES/EBU channels simultaneously. The AES-32 also complements the MADI Premium Line for those who want to expand their MADI line-up with an additional AES/EBU based DAW unit.

The card's main board contains word clock I/O and a 25-pin D-sub connector, providing channels 1 to 8 with four AES inputs (XLR-F) and four AES outputs (XLR-M) on a standard digital breakout cable. (HDSP AES-32 uses RME/TASCAM/Digidesign pinout format)

The word clock input is galvanically isolated via transformer, and operates with single, double and quad speed signals automatically. The main card can be used completely independently. The included expansion board adds audio channels 9-16 and a connector for a MIDI breakout cable with two MIDI I/Os (four 5-pin DIN connectors). It does not require a PCI slot.

Thanks to the included DSP-based TotalMix™ software, all 16 inputs and playback channels can be freely routed to the 16 physical outputs, offering extraordinary monitoring capabilities. Up to 8 fully independent stereo submixes can be created. Routings can be copied and pasted, faders ganged and grouped, which, along with the matrix window, turns the AES-32 into a powerful and easy-to-use redistributor, patchbay, router, converter, and splitter. The hardware-based DSP mixer is fully MIDI-controllable. Furthermore, the DSP hardware calculates RMS and peak level meters for all audio channels, without any measurable CPU load.

RME have implemented a Quick Boot memory option that activates the card’s key settings immediately on power on. Rather than operating in a default mode from the moment the PC is switched on until the driver is loaded, the card will immediately activate the last used sampling rate, master/slave configuration and AES format, thus eliminating any start-up noise or problems in the clock network at system start or reboot.

The HDSP AES-32 card is based on the same driver architecture as the HDSP MADI card.
Therefore these cards can be combined in one computer to expand to both, MADI and AES capabilities in a single machine.

The TCO (Time Code Option) from the HDSP series cards can also be used with the AES-32 to sync to LTC and video. The TCO not only extracts absolute positions from these signals, but also a very clean low jitter word clock, using SteadyClock™ for jitter suppression and clock regeneration.

As an option, the AES-32 card can be combined with the 19“ breakout box BOB-32, which will give you 16 AES/EBU XLR-I/Os that can be accessed from the front or rear in a rack, according to your choice.

Being part of RME´s HDSP series, the HDSP AES-32 comes with drivers for Windows 2000/XP (multi-client operation of MME, GSIF and ASIO 2.0), and Mac OS X (Core Audio, Core MIDI). With some tens of thousands of rock-solid HDSP installations worldwide, and RME’s reputation for constantly developing state of the art drivers as computer technology moves on, there’s no worry about future PC or Mac Operating Systems. At the time of this brochure (10/05), drivers for upcoming Win and MAC OS X x86 64 bit Operating Systems are already under construction.
