Memory Cat Brigade

Bucket Brigade Delay

Description

Intro

The Memory Cat is a bucket-brigade delay combining the best about tape & analog units with their smooth high-end and organic overall sound. It was modeled after one of the most demanded analog delays ever built.

Description

Tape & Analog delays have been favored by engineers and producers for decades for their warmer and more natural sound compared to digital delays. Both types tend to roll off the low and high frequencies, which makes them sit better in the mix. That gives the musical and organic feel that many of us are chasing. Based on the 1980s classic Deluxe Memory Man, Our own Memory Cat Brigade unit is one of the most faithful software recreations of this music industry staple.

As we always do, we measured and recreated every single component of the original hardware’s circuit following its original schematic. Of course, we walked the extra mile and in addition to the accurate modeling of the behavior of all original parameters, we added a few bonuses. Cat Memory Brigade is capable of achieving up to 1100 mS delay time and features a Filter knob for even darker echoes.

History

Released in 1980, the Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man pedal featured a unique marriage of both Analog and Tape delay by reproducing Tape-like echos using capacitors without the need for actual magnetic tape. Due to its unique circuitry, the unit was capable of producing lush, dark, and expensive-sounding delays with vibrant chorus and haunting vibrato in a convenient small shape with plenty of controls.

After being adopted by U2’s The Edge and featured on their “Sunday Bloody Sunday” hit, the reputation of the pedal quickly grew and became a must for many artists including Robert Smith, Ed O’Brien, Arctic Monkeys’ Jamie Cook, and the late Chris Cornell.
