Backbone is your new, innovative drum designer for single kicks, snares, hi-hats, percussion, rises, hits and more. Layer up to eight samples and shape them with classic subtractive synthesis, decompose samples into tonal and noise elements, re-synthesize samples to manipulate them in unheard ways and apply up to eight effects with two fully routable buses — all with a slick, extremely fast interface. Backbone takes your drums into a whole new era of sound design — the era of drum re-synthesis!

Analyze samples and get similar sounds

With DrumGAN you can now analyze a sample and replicate it. The generated sample will sound familiar, but will have its own, unique presence. This is perfect for customizing drum sounds or for creating a stereo drum sound from a mono sample.

Resynth section

With the Resynth section in Backbone, you get a spectral version of your sample. This can be played up to 800 times faster, slowed down or even frozen at a static position. Taking your sound beyond the classic sine wave and noise, at zero speed the Resynth section acts like an oscillator. By placing the position parameter at interesting points in your sample, you can extract the original audio spectrum.

Layer sampled

Combine up to eight different layers into one extraordinary sound. Each layer can be treated separately with subtractive synthesis, re-synthesis, Decompose, filters and envelopes. This allows you to achieve very complex sounds and makes Backbone suitable for all kinds of drums, bass or cinematic risers, hits and swooshes.

Split into Tonal and Noise

Take the punch from one kick and the noise from another, extract the tonal spectrum from a synth bass and layer it with the noise of an experimental field recording. With Decompose you can split your samples into a tonal and a noise layer, then tweak each of them separately to create the next big drum sound.
