VEQ-STU 089 is a semi-parametric EQ with straightforward and easy-to-master controls. Two variable filters and a presence knob are enough for this simple but powerful tone-shaping unit, inspired by a piece of classic 1970s Swiss audio gear.

Description

The VEQ-STU 089 and its minimalist, yet practical set of controls will give your sound a warm and authentic analog treatment. It is especially powerful when processing drum sounds. The plugin allows you to either gently equalize the input signal or dive deep into its frequency content. The EQ features a High Pass Filter slider which can cut at 60, 100, 150, or 250 Hz. Next to it is the Low Pass Filter Slider which allows you to cut off at 3 kHz, 5 kHz, 8 kHz, or 12 kHz. If you need to get a little more precise two additional bands at 80 Hz and 8 kHz with sliders going from -8 to +8 dB come especially handy. The last touch on this minimalist but powerful tool is the Presence knob with Frequency Selection slider, which allows you to add an extra touch to the sound you’re in after.

History

Just like the VEQ-STU 169, the VEQ-STU 089 was modeled after the EQ sections the finest Swiss mixing consoles from the 1970s to the early 1980s. Beneath what looks like a pretty straightforward and simple layout we find almost endless sound-sculpting potential, a pristine and overall, very unique and sought-after sound.
